lesson from the kindle

Amazon launched the Kindle 2, the second generation of its e-book reader. The new model has a new text-to-speech feature that reads book aloud !!! Cool. Here is the details

This is consistent to the new digital changes to news media. As iPod and Kindle have paved the way for a business model based on 'micro payments', in which readers pay a few cents for downloads, news media can also charge for each story.

After all, now we know that the newspaper doesn't have to do with ink/paper and subscription.

  1. I suspect that one of the attractive features for advertisers is interactivity. If MSM could do a better job of identifying readers based on geography and basic demographic info, the ads could be personalized. This isn't rocket science, and it need not be a back-door invasion of privacy. Frankly, I'd rather get ads at least somewhat directed toward my interests than ads asking if I want to meet cute girls in Glendora or lose 20 pounds with the latest colonic.

Hey, there just might be a future out there for good, old-fashioned journalism!
